In rebuilding the World Trade Center site, a city and a nation set out to examine what it means to be American and the leader of a global community. Never before has the United States undergone a project of such sheer size and symbolic significance. Paul Goldberger, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and Architecture critic for The New Yorker, visits the Revelle Forum to speak about his new book on the World Trade Center site, Up From Zero. Goldberger vividly recounts the story of the design selection process, describing how conflicting pressures from economic hopes, politics, grief, hubris and powerful egos have shaped decisions about the project, while offering his own evaluation of the design and its implications.
